Okay so we are officially two days into our first annual diaper drive. Raleigh Rescue Mission Donation Store is allowing us to use them as a drop off site (4700 Capital Blvd. Ral. NC) thankfully because we received plenty of questions as to where to drop off diaper donations.
I looked at the analytics for our campaign and see our initial post reached over 1,700 people with 20 shares on the post just form the original posting (update, over 2,200 reached with 25 shares). This does not include any subsequent shares from someone who may have seen the post on someone else's page. We are putting up the numbers, we just "ain't" seeing the results. I get it, people either don't trust non-profits, are financially strapped, some may need more proof in their pudding, some really have a disdain for non-profits, etc... I have a friend who is completely against the idea of not for profit orgs. and given what some of these organizations do I can see where he stands. Maybe we aren't the big name folks look for or it's something we "ain't" doing on our end. Can it be we don't look like the face of the other non-profits and have pushed folks away with our peculiar sensibilities and our take on how the rhythm of a nonprofit should be? Have we identified every possible reach for help, is the verbiage too convoluted or too dumbed down? I feel we are "purty" good about knowing and refining our processes and our constant need to design a reliable brand as a 501c3, but maybe we aren't connecting on a more intimate level?
I won't lie, I am a bit scared of the outcome of this. I really want us to get these diapers to the folks who truly need them. Why???? . . . this could be anyone of us at any time and I believe a village should try when it's appropriate to get our people back on their feet. I want us to hit our goal and not fall flat on our face. People genuinely need help; where would I be had it not been for others throughout my life who seen me as someone worth investing in? I know every case is different and I can understand the devil is always in the details of our lives. Maybe I'm not giving everyone enough credit?
What I truly feel is that I haven't given the emotion and the moment enough time to simmer and gain traction. I always believe there are a surplus of good people in the community who want to help; a complete contradiction to what people may see or believe for themselves. The Life Society was founded on this type of raw intimate energy and we will succeed and fail at times but my first mind tells me we will thrive in our niche, and do a lot more good in this world! A world that some may not recognize past their immediate needs which makes it all the more critical. So please y'all any feedback or suggestions we are always available with a stretched ear! Diaper Drive 2017! lets go! Let's hashtag something #tlsdiaperdrive2017
